Brand McKenzie Ltd

Hybrid working means we’re all spending more days at home than ever before. This is why it’s so important to create a home office that both pleases and inspires you every time you sit down to work. Kerry McKenzie, co-founder of Brand McKenzie, reveals five ways that wallpaper can elevate your home-working space.

1. If you work from home all or most of the time, you need an energising scheme for your home office. Consider a palette that incorporates your favourite colours, and a design that includes something you love – animals or flowers, for example. A great example is our Curious Skies design (see feature image, above), a fantastical sky full of flying balloons, animals and people that will always boost your mood and stimulate creativity.

2. Bring the outside into your office with a botanical print. This is especially important in the winter months when the days are short. I think our Tropical Reflections design (see below) will do the trick, as it depicts lush vegetation that will transport you to an exotic island.

3. Consider the background you want to display when you’re on video calls from your home office as well as the paper you want to look at while you’re working. If necessary, choose different papers for those different walls.

4. If your desk is in a shared open space, it’s important to strike a balance with a wallpaper design that both you and your family will enjoy living with. Our Animal Architecture paper is proving to be a real crowd pleaser, with mischievous monkeys and giraffes creating a playful vibe (see image, below).

5. Wallpaper is a great way to separate your work area from the rest of a larger space. For example, slot a desk into a small alcove in your living room and wallpaper it with a bold design. Then, pull a colour from the paper and use it to paint the rest of the space. This is also a good way to play with pattern without overly committing.
